Package sorting systems

Next day? Same day! Whether they are consumers or companies, today everybody expects not only to be able to order their goods conveniently with a click of the mouse but also that the consignment arrives quickly and reliably. Logistics companies play a central role here. They must constantly expand their capacities and make their processes even more efficient. We support DHL, UPS & Co. in these efforts with our solutions: Our control systems ensure that packages and parcels always take the right route in the distribution centre and thus arrive at recipients all over the world safely and punctually.

  • DHL Leipzig Hub

The new DHL air hub in Leipzig/Halle is one of the three intercontinental hubs in the DHL network together with Hong Kong and Wilmington (Ohio). Consignments from all over the world arrive at this international hub and are then further distributed by plane or HGV.

A particular feature of the logistics centre in Leipzig/Halle is not only package preparation but also the fully automatic transport system for bulky goods: The system conveys large consignment items with a weight of up to 70 kg in 2.2 metre long containers at a speed of 2 metres per second. With its 72 Siemens S7-319F control units, our control system ensures that everything runs smoothly on the approximately 20 kilometres of conveying system and both packages and also bulky goods are transported quickly and safely.

  • UPS Logistics Centre

United Parcel Service (UPS) is one of the largest logistics companies in the world. With about 444,000 staff all over the world, the US Group generates just under 60 billion US dollars a year. In Europe UPS is now dedicated to implementing its growth strategy and to extending its network further.

The new distribution centre and depot in Lyons plays an important role within this strategy: In future the company wants to equip all sites, not only in Europe but throughout the world, with conveying and sorting equipment following the Lyons’ pattern. Part of this new system design are our control systems that, with three Siemens S7-319F control units, ensure that 11,400 packages an hour travel via the belts in Lyons and go on their way quickly and safely.
